How long does solar panel installation take in Utah?
Installation on your roof usually takes one to two days. The full process takes longer because of the city permit and Rocky Mountain Power interconnection — RMP notes some interconnections take longer than 70 business days. Our project manager files both the day you sign to keep the timeline short.
How does Rocky Mountain Power pay for solar in 2026?
New customers are on Schedule 137 net billing. Solar you use at home offsets power at full retail value, and power you export earns an export credit — 4.855 cents per kWh from June to September and 4.033 cents from October to May, effective March 1, 2026. That's why we size systems to your usage.
Do I need a new electrical panel for solar?
Sometimes. Many older Utah homes have 100-amp panels that can't safely accept a solar backfeed, especially with a battery or EV charger. We check your panel from a photo before pricing, and if an upgrade is needed it's included in the same flat-rate quote.
Can solar go on a roof that needs replacing soon?
It can, but it usually shouldn't. If your roof has only a few years of life left, replacing it first avoids paying to remove and reinstall the panels later. We'll tell you plainly if that's the better order.
Does solar still work during a power outage in Utah?
A grid-tied system shuts off during an outage so utility crews stay safe. To keep power on, you need a hybrid system with a battery, or Enphase IQ8 microinverters with Sunlight Backup for daytime-only power.
Is solar panel installation Utah homeowners buy still eligible for a federal tax credit?
